Description | The Role Award-winning animal charity, Pet Blood Bank UK, is recruiting for a maternity cover for the part time role of Pet Blood Bank Processor and Laboratory Manager. The role holder reports into the Clinical Director and manages the day to day activities of the Laboratory, Stock & Distribution and Technical Sales Teams based in Loughborough.
Background Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity of its kind that provides a canine blood bank service, helping to save the lives of many loyal companions across the UK. Similar to the human blood service, donation sessions are held nationwide for large dog owners to bring along their pets to give blood. The blood is then taken to PBB’s state of the art processing centre in Loughborough where it is separated into red blood cells and plasma products, and then stored ready for despatch. Now in its 11th year, the charity has over 8,000 canine donors registered and growing at an exponential rate as media attention increases.
The Candidate
With strong organisational and communication skills, the successful candidate will be confident in their ability to effectively manage the teams in their day to day activities, ensuring all aspects of stock and storage for blood products is conducted in an appropriate and timely manner. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for confirming all lab equipment is well maintained including servicing and calibration, as well as ensuring all administrative tasks relating to processing, quality control and stock management are completed appropriately by Lab staff.
You’ll be an experienced manager, with a working knowledge of pet/human blood banking and ideally with a human/veterinary blood processing certificate (or equivalent) A confident user of all Microsoft Office packages, the successful candidate will also have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, a proactive and enthusiastic approach and an aptitude for team work. The ability to empathise with the pet owning public is essential. Some travel is expected and therefore it is essential you hold a clean, full driving licence. | |
