London Vet Show offering a trip to Borneo with Worldwide Veterinary Service

The London Vet Show will be offering delegates the opportunity to win a trip of a lifetime to Borneo with Worldwide Veterinary Service at this year’s event.

Taking place at Olympia on 20 and 21 November, delegates at LVS can win the once in a lifetime trip for two people worth £12,000 by simply collecting a stamp in their LVS passport from each of the participating sponsors’ stands in the exhibition.

The 12-day working holiday will include six days with International Aid for the Protection and Welfare of Animals (IAPWA).  Here they will run small-scale outreach health clinics and neutering campaigns in remote villages providing a vital veterinary resource to local communities that are without a permanent vet in the area.  The pair will also be able to experience a jungle retreat minutes away from the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre where they will take in jungle cruises, explore the Gomatung Cave and enjoy a canopy walk.  This will be followed by two days relaxation at the Shangri La Resort, which is surrounded by 400 acres of tropical forest and has a spectacular beachfront view.

Jane Shipsey, a veterinary surgeon from the PDSA in Newcastle, won a trip to India at last year’s show; she was joined on the 11-day working holiday by a friend from Edinburgh University, Sarah Archard, a mixed practice vet now living in Australia.

“It was an amazing trip which combined a great holiday in India with the chance to experience veterinary volunteering work with WVS, which hopefully I will do again in the future,” comments Jane.  “There were so many highlights, but seeing elephants in the wild and hearing leopards at night was unmissable.“
