Improve International Offers Scholarship for Nurse Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care in Memory of Louise O’Dwyer

To celebrate Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month (May 2020), veterinary nurses with a passion for Emergency and Critical Care are encouraged to apply for a scholarship on Improve International’s Programme in Emergency and Critical Care for Veterinary Nurses, scheduled to start in October 2020. The opportunity is being offered in memory of Louise O’Dwyer, one of the UK’s most highly qualified veterinary nurses, who sadly died last year. A highly respected and awarded ECC veterinary nurse, who was passionate about the subject and an inspiration to her colleagues, Ms O’Dwyer lectured not only on the NCert ECC programme, which she helped to design, but she also lectured on other Improve nursing courses and at congresses around the world.

The full cost of the programme will be covered, together with the examination fee for the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies. The successful applicant will also receive a copy of the textbook ‘Practical Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Nursing,’ written by Ms O’Dwyer with Dr Paul Aldridge.

Those wishing to apply are asked to complete the application form at https://www.improveinternational.com/uk/louise-odwyer-scholarship/. The closing date is 6 July 2020, with the successful applicant announced on 24 July 2020.

Commenting, Miss Claire Dorey-Philips BSc (Hons) ISFM DipFN RVN), Nurses Programme Tutor at Improve International, said: “Louise was an exceptional and much-loved member of the veterinary nursing community. Her passion and commitment to ECC nursing in particular helped to drive the discipline forward and inspired countless vets and vet nurses in the UK and around the world. We were privileged to have her as one of our lecturers and wanted to do something in her memory.

“Helping a fellow nurse who shares her enthusiasm for ECC nursing to build their knowledge and skills by offering them a free place on our ECC programme seemed the obvious thing to do. We have worked with Louise’s family in developing the idea and they will select the successful applicant. We hope the recipient of the free place enjoys the programme and that it equips them well to develop a successful career in the field of ECC nursing.”

For further information and full terms and conditions for the free place, visit www.improveinternational.com or call 01793 759159.
