Davies Pledges Support for StreetVet

Davies Veterinary Specialists has pledged its support for StreetVet, an award-winning vet practice giving free care to the homeless and their dogs. The private small animal veterinary referral practice based in Higham Gobion, Hertfordshire, is sponsoring StreetVet for 12 months and will also be providing practical veterinary support.

StreetVet was set up in 2016, inspired by the bond between a homeless man and his dog. It now operates in London, Brighton, Bristol, Birmingham, Plymouth, Cambridge, Southampton and Cheltenham and has already helped to care for almost 350 street dogs and cats. They have vaccinated and microchipped; treated for fleas and protected against lungworm; prescribed pain relief and helped fight infections; performed surgeries; and sometimes just sat and listened.

Davies will be sponsoring the talks at SteetVet’s veterinary conference this September. In addition Ian Battersby RCVS and EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Head of Internal Medicine will be presenting a paper on Diarrhoea in the dog – some key principles and David Gould RCVS and EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology and Head of Ophthalmology will be discussing Eye examinations on the street – what to look for, how to treat.

During the year members of Davies’ team of vets will regularly join StreetVet vets to help homeless people and their dogs. Davies will be documenting their participation via their social media channels to help raise awareness of the important work StreetVet does around the UK.

Ian Battersby said: “We are so excited to get behind StreetVet in this way. So many members of our team at Davies voted for them to be our charity of the year but because they are not yet a registered charity we couldn’t nominate them. Instead we decided to sponsor them and intend to really help spotlight the fantastic work they do and hopefully help them on their path to charitable status.”

One of StreetVet’s homeless clients is currently walking over 2000 miles around the UK with his dog to raise awareness and funds for StreetVet. You can find out more herehttps://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/iapwa/streetvet
