Charity launches new online CPD short-course:

‘Introduction to Pet Bereavement Support Skills’

Blue Cross Pet Bereavement Support Service has launched a new two-hour ‘Introduction to Pet Bereavement Support Skills’ e-learning short course. The course is aimed at those in the pet sector who may be faced with difficult and sensitive conversations around pet loss with customers who may be in distress after the loss of a much loved animal. Handling pet loss is now an essential trained skill needed within vet practices for the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accreditation.

The online course covers the following key areas:

·         Empathy vs sympathy

·         Communicating with active listening skills

·         Open questions

·         Face-to-face emotional support, telephone support, email support and other written communication

·         How to support yourself, importance of self-care and useful contacts

This course can be booked online at £35 per person. The online short course compliments the charity’s accredited award-winning eight-week course for more in-depth training, and also their hourly webinars.

The Blue Cross ‘Pet Bereavement Support’ course (£280) is an eight week accredited, award-winning CPD e-learning course. Awarded by NCFE, the course requires a minimum of three to four hours of study per week and counts towards 32 hours Continual Professional Development. Please be aware that this is not a counselling qualification.

The charity’s one-hour webinar (£20) is aimed at veterinary nurses, receptionists, vets and practice managers who regularly have direct contact with bereaved pet owners. They also offer an open forum in which to discuss topics and share experiences. The webinar also counts towards CPD.

For specific needs, Blue Cross can also work with practices to provide bespoke face-to-face training across the UK, specifically tailored and delivered at the practice.  For more information about all Blue Cross PBSS training and courses visit www.bluecross.org.uk/pbss-course or call 01993 867216.
