The annual statistics about agriculture in the United Kingdom to 2013 have been published

This annual publication provides an overview of agriculture in the UK. It contains an extensive range of data including farm incomes, land use, livestock numbers, prices, production of key commodities (eg wheat, milk, vegetables), overseas trade, organic farming and the environment. The information is used widely by government, industry, researchers and other stakeholders to support policy monitoring and development.
The report shows that the total income from farming for the UK has increased by 13 percent from £630 million to £5.5 billion in real terms. It also details the numbers of farm animals - the total number of pigs has increased by nine percent from 4.5 million in 2012 to 4.9 million in 2013, the number of sheep and lambs has also risen by two percent to 32.9 million, however the main dairy herd of cattle has continued its long term decrease of recent years by falling by 1.6 percent in 2013, and the beef herd has decreased by 2.8 percent to 1.6 million.
