More than 200 speakers are set to take on the London Vet Show this year on November 20th and 21st, offering something for everyone

The London Vet Show 2014 is going from strength to strength this year, with a new and extended programme of over 200 speakers and two new lecture streams.

Featuring six clinical lecture streams, a business stream, sponsor-led workshops and association rooms, the conference, which is in its sixth year and held at the Olympia Grand on Thursday November 20th and 21st, is a great opportunity for veterinary professionals to listen to and interact with some of the leading thinkers, visionaries and practitioners.

Highlights this year include; a lecture on Chronic nasal disease in dogs and cats on Friday November 21st, at 10am to 10.50am by Phil Padrid, DVM Associate Professor of SA Medicine at The Ohio State University of Vet Med. The lecture will cover work-up and treatment, of the disease Chronic rhinitis. On the Thursday between 4.55pm and 5.55pm, there will be a workshop on Lameness, looking at both complex and multi-limb lameness. This will be led by Roger Smith, a Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery and Professor of Equine Orthopedics, Clinical Sciences and Services at The Royal Veterinary College, Andy Fiske Jackson, a Lecturer in Equine Surgery, Clinical Sciences and Services at The Royal Veterinary College and Philip Ivens, European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine and Director at Buckingham Equine Vets Ltd.

Lameness investigation is the most common problem affecting horses and is at the heart of every practicing vet’s daily schedule. This will be a highly interactive session using video clips, images and other materials to work through a series of lameness cases. The session will focus on interpretation of diagnostic analgesia, including common pitfalls and difficulties in interpretation alongside clinical examination and diagnostic imaging in making the final diagnosis.

While on Thursday morning, at 10.15am to 11.15am, in the BVA Farm Theatre, there will be a lecture on ‘Old diseases, new threats on our farms’, which will be led by Dr Sian Mitchell, Veterinary Investigation Officer at AHVLA. Sian’s presentation will cover awareness of the parasites and their clinical presentation or gross appearance, challenges in their control and importance of correct diagnosis to aid control.  Parasites are an important source of economic loss, clinical disease and death in farmed animals in the UK and Sian’s talk will provide information about a number of new or re-emerging parasites identified by AHVLA surveillance and the challenges they pose. Targeted at veterinary surgeons in practice, researchers and animal health companies, the presentation will build on the continued engagement of veterinary surgeons to offer advice on parasite control on their client’s farms.

There are plenty more exciting sessions taking place over the course of the two days, with small, farm and equine streams. For further information on the show or to register for it, visit www.londonvetshow.co.uk or call 02476 719 687.
